Fedora powered Misato

I succeeded in doing a dual boot for my notebook. Now I have MS Vista (unfortunately) and Fedora 9 on Misato. It was a year long dream of making her function the way I wanted. I really yearned for a Linux system on her. Although having MS is not that hard. It’s only a pain in the neck.

Fedora’s grub is what I like most. It handles my bootloader putting Linux as the default OS. But, I’d like to share what took me so long to get this used to intangible now tangible dream.

A month after Misato’s purchase last year, I decided to have 2 OSes. But, as I was prepping everything, my entire hard disk was not recognized at all, even when trying an XP cd installer.

I asked for technical support from the manufacturer and they didn’t seem to understand what I was trying to make out of my notebook. Instead, they tried scaring me that I might delete the pre-installed OS (MS Vista).

For a while I used VMWare with Fedora 6 and I wasn’t happy. Until K Jeff gave me an idea. He was doing the same thing on his notebook, MS Vista and Mac OsX. I immediately backed up my files and formatted my secondary logical partition disk to ext3 using GParted.

I configured manually which disk device (in my case, /dev/sda3) to install Fedora into. And you bet that I was successful.

It only needs a few tweaks like installing Lomboz plugin for Eclipse Europa IDE, Xampp, WordPress, and others. Actually, I’m waiting for Fedora 10 to arrive. I haven’t checked yet my other devices like USB 2.0, webcam, mic, but I’ll get there.

This means one thing, I’d be using GUI.
