Lite Distros For Not So Powerful Hardware

With the current economic situation, it’s better to do an overhaul on our systems rather purchasing a new one. Of course, it’s not advisable to use a standard OS for our not so powerful resources. Therefore, I suggest you use Linux.

But, not all hardware can handle Linux very well. For this matter, we’ll opt for the lighter side of geekiness.

Here’s a list of Lite Distributions that may make your computing feel lighter than it used to.

TinyMe – a remaster of PCLinuxOS

Vector Linux – “keep it simple, keep it small and let the end user decide what their operating system is going to be.”

CRUX – lightweight and optimized for experienced linux users.

Damn Small Linux – versatile mini desktop so light that it can run even on pen drives or use 16MB of RAM

Slitaz GNU/Linux
– can work fully in memory from removable media and can be installed directly to hard disk drive.

Ttylinux – minimalistic GNU/Linux having command line interface (meaning no GUI).

Puppy Linux – has 80MB for iso image and can run from USB sticks and other portable media.

Feather Linux – a Knoppix remaster (based on Debian), and tries to include software which most people would use every day on their desktop.

DeLi – DEsktop LIght Linux for old computers that focuses on desktop usage.

Zenwalk – modern, user-friendly, fast,  rational, complete, evolutionary (name it).

Antix - lightweight and easy to install linux live CD distribution based on MEPIS.

ZevenOS

Linpus

U-Lite – a community driven Linux distribution based on Ubuntu.

Fluxbuntu

BasicLinux – designed specifically for old PCs.

gOS – generic Linux Distribution with google Apps. Mistaken to be Google OS but it’s Good OS.

Feel free to leave a comment and if there’s any distro I failed to include, I’d be happy to know.

Thanks for the list! I’m going to bookmark this! :D

The problem with gOS Cloud might be its rendering; using Google Chrome. I’m not quite confident with using Chrome yet. hehe…

I doubt that it’s using Google Chrome. It’s Linux-based and there still isn’t a Linux version of Chrome.

I suppose that gOS just love to make things look (and sound) Google
