I just ran fuser -m /dev/snd/controlC0 and the process was kmix and then fuser -m /dev/nvidia0 to see kwin as the process but next time I try to use my gps I'll be able to tell if gpsd is even using it thanks to fuser (I'd never heard of this command before) wow — great tip!
