Software Freedom Day 2009

Bluepoint Linux Users Elite (BLUE) in cooperation with the Commission on Information & Communications Technology-National Computer Center (CICT-NCC), University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), Ateneo de Manila University Department of Information Systems and Computer Science (DISCS), and Bluepoint Foundation will celebrate Software Freedom Day with the rest of the world on September 19, 2009 at the National Computer Center, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.


We kick-off at nine in the morning. Due to limited seating capacity, only the first 400 pre-registered attendees will be accommodated. Registration is FREE.

We started accepting pre-registrations last August 17. All 400 slots were confirmed and reserved by August 24. We are now coordinating with NCC for an additional room in order to accommodate more attendees. Please standby for a possible wait list.

ITE Roadshow in TIP Manila

Summer Geek Camp 2009

As part of Bluepoint’s Free and Open Source Software advocacy, we will hold the 2nd Summer Geek Camp on April 17-19, 2009 at the Loreland Farm Resort in Antipolo City.

Taking off from the great success of our first camp in Tagaytay last year, Summer Geek Camp 2009 will focus on Enterprise 2.0 for software developers, system & network administrators, and information managers.

There will be 3 working groups: 1) System and Network Administration, 2) Software Development, and 3) Information Management. The use of Open Source tools and technologies will be integrated into these learning sessions. We are also going to intensify the technical sessions for this camp, with certifications of completion for those who fulfill all the training requirements. Topics include:

Web 2.0 Security
Cloud Computing
Software as a Service (SaaS)
Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX)
Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)
Representational State Transfer (REST)
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation)
YAML Ain’t a Markup Language (YAML)
Extensible Markup Language (XML)

Summer Geek Camp is a community building event. In the spirit of Free and Open Source software, participants are expected to share resources and take part in activities and the running of this 3-day gathering.
