Vista and the Linux Geekette
Tuesday, June 9th, 2009I did something hilarious with my notebook. Not did something, but rather almost did something.
You see, I’ve mentioned several times that I seldom use Vista Partition on my notebook. Then last night, out of whim, I wanted to use it.
I already had a plan of doing system upgrade on it and a stupid thing occurred: I forgot my administrator password and it was the only account I was using on Vista!!!
Right there and then I searched for probable solutions. And with an internet connection that is a slow poke for downloading MBs of iso image, I decided to take my leave of the matter and clear my head so that I could recover the password deep in my neurons.
Deep inside I felt depressed and I regretted why I didn’t install what K Jeff gave me: biometrics log in via webcam. That’s why I said to myself, “I’d install it right away, just let me log in.”
With all the time spent on searching for answers, I actually found a hash table password recovery tool, which is coincidentally a freeware. I was delighted and excited to try it out. But like I said, I had to go to bed and give it a rest.
Anyway, this password recovery tool is called: Ophcrack. It’s a live cd wherein it’ll search for partition hash table and will return list of accounts with their corresponding passwords.
I still downloaded the free Vista Live CD although I already had a thought of formatting the partition. Never say die!
When I got home earlier, I immediately booted in the live cd. Voila! Nothing happened. I tried several times but it only said that there’s no partition found. You bet I was overly depressed. With that feeling, I tried recalling the password cause I still don’t want to go through the process of formatting it. Guess what, I succeeded!! haha!
*woot woot!!*
Now, I can only say, “Aaah, life!!”
