late movie review

bridge to terabithia
walt disney pictures

main char: jess aarons, leslie burke

we were at the movies last weekend for a little winding up. it was difficult to find a film that would suite our taste and mood that day but still, we watched this movie, “bridge to terabithia.” at first i thought that it was in 3d animation, hell no.

there were a lot of kids clinging to their moms and dads while entering the movie house. indeed, it was for kids and kids at heart (just like us).

anyway, it is about having a mind that is wide open for imagination to take place. having an imaginative mind is not enough just like jess who loves to draw. but when he met leslie on the first day of school, they created a new world that only they know about and the bullies around them are the invaders of their kingdom.

they called their place terabithia in which they are the rulers. and most likely, their people are terabithians. jess and leslie is up against the dark master who take terabithians as his prisoners and slaves.

bridge to terabithia is not like other fantasy films that the characters are taken to a place in another dimension in space. it’s only about not hesitating to fantasize and imagining things that only one can understand and see. it is in our dreams that we take sanctuary and liberty.

seeing this was pretty relaxing. makes me think of my childhood.

MOVIE REVIEW

This movie may not be the talk of the town these days but if you are into indie films, you’re probably familiar with it.

“Rome and Juliet” stars Mylene Dizon and Andrea del Rosario. They are both straight women who were not aware that THE ONE they’ve been waiting for to spend the rest of their lives is another woman.

The main characters sought sanctuary in each others arms and as their friendship went on, they’ve fallen in love with each other.

Andrea (Juliet) was very good in portraying her role as a conservative preschool teacher and submissive girlfriend to Marc (Rafael Rosell). And though they’re getting married, she did not keep her heart from finding her true love in a woman’s persona (Rome).

But i must say that Mylene (Rome) was spectacular and simply gorgeous the entire film. You can not take your eyes off her while she delivers her lines. She was astonishing. That’s all i can say.

By the way, this movie is trying to have a connection to people who have a misunderstanding with an unusual relationship. But then again, they are just women who are not so different from everybody else. Not to mention they are also human beings who know what true love is all about.

Just like what Rome said when she had her turn in a Casablanca monologue: “walang masama sa ganitong relasyon. bakit hindi nila maintindihan? ang alam ko, masarap lang magmahal.” (or something near that).

Try watching this film. it’s really an eye opener for everyone. And i do hope they make more movies like this. They can earn more than cheesy tagalog romantic movies on earth. Trust me.

you can find it in indie sine of robinson’s galleria, cinema 3. it’s runtime is one week, i believe. you can also grab some memorabilia, only they are quite expensive since those are limited editions.

one line by juliet: “if sweetness can kill, patay na ko ngayon.”

one line by jown: “if sweetness can kill, diabetic ako, pagtagal, i’m dead.”

kasal, kasali, kasalo

saw this movie recently after hearing so much about it. i was also intrigued with it’s plot when i saw previews on tv.

it did not fail me. i was laughing hard every now and then and the story was really a fact that most couples undergo.

but, making someone laugh doesn’t make the movie itself so good. lead actress was shouting almost the entire film. and majority of the scenes was fights between the couples that gave me a headache. and though it was what the film is about. i found it dragging.

for this movie, i give it a rating of 8 out of 10. as if i’m a member of the jury. haha! just pretending to be one. if you want something to laugh about, try this. it’s worth it.
